Welcome back fight fans and what a surprise we have for you today! UFC 210 is approaching at a breakneck pace and today we got a chance to sit-down with a hometown guy who is making his UFC Debut and his return to our #10for10 series, the man known to many as “Toon” or “The Predator”, Desmond Green (19-5)! Desmond is one of our favorite guys as he isn’t just a fighter but he is one of the best personalities on social media in the game, make sure to check him out @predatortoon on all platforms, but for now, sit back and get to know the man who is returning home to make a debut on the biggest stage!
Hey Desmond, so glad we could get you back on here. Last time we spoke, you were about to step in the cage Vs Martin Brown in December at Titan FC 42. Talk to us about that bout in which we saw you take a split decision win, a win that lifted the streak to 4 in a row.
Toon: My last fight was definitely one for the books, it taught me a lot about myself and how deep I can dig for a win. I was dehydrated during the fight and really don’t even remember the third round, just remember pushing through some unforeseen circumstances and getting a win against a well seasoned opponent who hadn’t lost in 5 years.
Yeah man, that fight was no joke and Martin is one tough dude. Big win for you and the team! Ok man, the HUGE news hit the other day, Desmond Green IS HEADED TO THE UFC! When you hear that, what goes through your mind, what sort of emotions did you go through when you got the call, can you talk us through what you were doing and how it went down?
Toon: I was really excited when I finally found out that I was going to be on the Buffalo card. It was such a sweet moment considering I went to college there and my home town is an hour away. This has been my dream for so long and the fact that I’m going to be able to share it with so many people close to me is even more unreal it truly is a blessing from God. I was actually at my part time job when I got the call that it was official and I was just so ecstatic.
No doubt man, I know my phone blew up as we know a bunch of the same people in the 585 asking if it was true, people are pumped to have you back! So UFC 210 on April 8th, and it’s in your back yard of Buffalo! We both know the 585 and 716 will turn out for you being the local boy but how nice is it to step up to the largest stage in the game and for it to get a home field advantage? Do you think it helps you? What can we expect from those crazy fans of yours?
Toon: I’m going to be feeding off of so much positive energy, there is no way I can lose. I’m so excited to perform in front of people that mean so much to me and my friends are just going to be there supporting me screaming and I’m going to eat up every moment of it.
I know I can’t wait, I have made no bones about letting people know you should have been there years ago. Seeing how this is your first and WAY OVERDUE bout in the UFC, have you trained any differently? We know you live in the gym as your social media is full of posts, you even had Rumble Johnson talking about your style. How is it training with a guy like Anthony and the rest of the savages you run with?
Toon: I’m trying to keep everything the same for this camp and not really fall into the whole UFC debut, as always the focus is just to get better in every position every day so I just want to go there be relaxed, fight the fight I know how to fight and I know for sure I will get a finish. With me and two of my teammates fighting on the same card that night the energy in the room is super high everyone is hungry and we’re going to go Savage it out.
Man you know you don’t know any other way, it’s all savage all the time or it’s nothing at all! Ok so you got Josh Emmett at UFC 210. He is sitting at 11-0 with two UFC fights and much like you, can end a fight any way. When you look at the tape, what do you see and where do you feel you hold the advantages?
Toon: I think Josh is a very good fighter but he’s never fought anyone with my abilities and as well-rounded as me. I’m the bigger and stronger fighter and also better wrestler. I think I will get a finish.
I like it! This fight should be a great one! One word to describe what you think this fight will be like?
Sounds like every fight you are involved. Now we know family is a big part of everything you do, how pumped are they for this and are they an added motivation for you?
Toon: My family is very excited they are even flying in town just for the event, so you know I have to put on.
For sure man! Ok we know your time is short so we will let you get back in the gym, but before we let you go, are there any people or sponsors you would like to mention?
Toon: Just want to thank my family and teammates and my manager Glenn Robinson.
There you have it fight fans, if you can’t feel the intensity in what he is saying you might want to check your pulse, this man is focused and has his eyes on only one outcome. I for one can’t wait for the 8th! Again make sure to check him out on all social media as he posts something each day and is one of the most personable guys in the game. As always keep your eyes right here at ArtofMMA.com as we have another UFC heavy hitter in Jorge Masvidal coming up next!
