CFFC 63 is almost here and THE CHAMP IS BACK! CFFC fan favorite and Featherweight Champion Jared Gordon (11-1) is finally healthy and ready to go toe to toe with Bill Algeo. Jared is coming off two fights where he had to pull out due to injuries in camp but as he said on Twitter (@NYCFLASHGORDON) he about 2 weeks until he “paints the fresh CFFC gloves red again”! This fight screams Fight of the Night. So take a minute to get to know the man behind the gloves as we had the chance to sit down with him.
As Mace once said “Welcome Back”!! So glad to have you back with us and in the cage finally healthy and back for CFFC 63. Talk to us about this frustrating road as you have been on the last 2 cards but had to withdraw due to injuries. Are you finally back to 100% and what type of Jared Gordon can we expect on Feb 14th?
Gordon: It sucks when you’re getting ready for a fight and have to pull out due to injuries. The fight before I fractured my thumb 2.5 weeks before he fight, I tried training so I could fight and it got worse. The main fight was an even bigger upset because the status of his name would have been a great win for me, but I had to have nose surgery to remove a septum hematoma and straighten my septum. But everything happens for a reason I believe.
Yeah man, I remember talking to you when it happened and could just tell that you were frustrated beyond the point. Glad to see you are bounding back and ready to get back to what you do best. How frustrating was it to be so close to both cards only to have to step back and watch them as a spectator?
Gordon: It was extremely frustrating to have to pull out both times. When you pour everything you have into something and then not be able to fulfill your goals sucks no matter what you’re doing.
I couldn’t agree more man. We know that awesome fan base of yours is ready for your return, I got the chance to sit with some at CFFC 62 and they told me they can’t wait for your return and you looked pumped for it when we spoke. What can we expect in your return? If you could give us a one word description on how this fight will be what would it be?
Gordon: You can expect a very prepared Jared Gordon. My one word to describe me and what will transpire in the fight is, omnipotent [Editor’s Note: Link to definition because we didn’t know what it meant either.].
Wow! I love it and I love the fact you have to use big words and make me google them hahaha. Now at CFFC 63 you are defending your title vs the “Honey Badger” Bill Algeo who is coming off 2 very impressive wins over Jeff Lentz and Anthony Terrell. Talk to us about what you see when you look at him on tape and what do you expect going into this fight?
Gordon: Algeo is a tough kid. He’s very scrappy and has good skills, but I see a lot of holes which I will expose.
This one has fight of the night written all over it too, I love this matchup. Now we have seen some posts on Twitter (@NYCflashgordon) where you talk about your boxing over at Church Street Gym. Talk to us about how those sessions went. You’re known as a guy that loves that stand and bang style… any new tricks added to the résumé?
Gordon: I’ve been doing a ton of boxing with pro and highly ranked amateur boxers. Golden glove champs and such. That feeling you get from a boxer is like non other. The timing, the speed, and the volume. But I’m also kickboxing with high level kickboxers as well. If you’re not boxing, you’re not training right.
I am gonna take your word for that and seeing the photos and moves you have put on social media (GO FOLLOW HIM!) your skills are looking as dangerous as ever! Looking at this card on paper we see that Arias Garcia is at it again with his magic in making these super cards and this seems to be a “stand and bang” fans dream with you and Zu on the same card. Talk to us about how awesome it is to be on this card and what you thought when you saw the lineup.
Gordon: Arias and CFFC always do an amazing job putting cards together. The card is stacked top to bottom and its going to be an amazing night of fights. CFFC is number one regional promotion for a reason.
You know we couldn’t agree more if we wanted to haha. Now we have spoken briefly about it before, you, along with Sean Santella are guys that should be in the UFC without question. We just saw Shane Burgos make a successful debut and CFFC alum Paul Felder is back. Do you feel a successful title defense and finish gets you that call or is there more things to accomplish?
Gordon: Honestly, I’m only thinking about the task ahead. The UFC is not in need of me, there are a 1000 Jared Gordon’s out there. My time will come. When I win this next fight I’m not sure what will happen. If they call they call if they don’t then whatever. I just want to fight. This is not for me anyways. It’s for everyone else, I just want to show people that following your dreams is what counts.
Man I will be honest, it’s answers like that, that make you not only a fan favorite but a fighter everyone gets behind and supports no matter what! Ok we know your time is precious as we are getting close to the 18th, so we will let you get back to training but before we let you go are there any people or sponsors you would like to mention?
Gordon: I’d like to thank Bounce Trampoline, The Barber Shop, Crwwnd Industrry, Good Leaf Smoothies, FH acupuncture, Bronx Martial Arts Academy, Renzo Gracie NYC academy, and Church Street Boxing Gym.
