Welcome back fight fans! CFFC 63 is closing in and is a stacked card, including THREE title fights. We are seeing the return of fan favorite, Sergio “The Savage” DaSilva. Last time we saw him he went to war with super tough Chris Piriz and came up short but if you know Sergio like we do, you know he is coming back for vengeance on Feb 18th! If you aren’t familiar with Sergio, well then you are missing out as he is more than a fighter, he is a family man and a guy that takes care of everyone lucky enough to know him. So take a minute and get on social media and follow him @thesavage125 on both Instagram and Twitter. But now it’s time to get to know the man and how he is preparing for CFFC 63!
Hey Sergio and welcome back, seems like it has been a while since we have seen you in the cage. What’s been going on with you lately?
DaSilva: Thanks for having me back guys! Always an honor… unfortunately my absence has been longer than I wanted. My goal was/is to stay as active as possible but also holidays and family comes first so I needed that break. Pumped to be stepping back in the CFFC cage. I got a few cool projects I’m working on but one of the coolest right now is this new podcast I’m co-hosting called “The Fight Cave” powered by Everlast. Pretty neat concept they have going on and I’m excited to be involved with my good friend and owner of New York fighting Matt Culley.
Nice man, we will have to keep our eyes on that podcast. Ok, CFFC 63 is closing in and you are set to take on Eddie Alvarez (no fans not the UFC version). When you see him on tape what stands out to you?
DaSilva: Honestly, nothing new to me. Baby Edwin as I like to refer to him has only three fights in his professional career. Not much video on him and the little I’ve watched, what I know is that he’s a little fast not that I haven’t seen before. l likes to move a lot. Doesn’t look like he has any power, wrestling is suspect and his BJJ is nonexistent. So basically a very bad matchup for him. I did notice. He does have a big mouth and likes to talk a lot which is a great recipe to get punched in the face [smiles].
Oh I love it hahaha, we all know how you love those qualities. Knowing your game and seeing what he has done in his career what can fans expect in this fight and how do you see it going?
DaSilva: Like I will leave everything in the cage. I’m not impressed with what he has done and I’m going to finish him. I know they are training for a grappling war but I’m coming to knock his head off his shoulders. So message to anyone, get your tickets because I’m getting a KO win.
YEEEES! Ok man, I like it! Now last time we saw you, you were riding a 2 fight win streak but lost a close one on the cards to Chris Piriz at CFFC 58. Talk to us about that fight and did you learn anything from that fight you plan on taking into this bout?
DaSilva: Yeah, Chris is a very tough opponent for anyone, he definitely came prepared. I felt like I kind of lost to myself though. I felt like I was ahead of the scorecards and cruised in the third round. That ended up costing me the fight. No excuses though, props to Piriz, he’s a gentleman and I wish him the best moving forward. But honestly, I’m passed that. I’m looking forward to my next one. One important lesson I did learn was don’t assume you’re winning, fight as if you need to finish or at least win the last round.
Yeah I assume everyone needs to learn that lesson at some point. Now I know your fans and we all know you are a fan favorite win or loss in the CFFC. Your fan base is awesome and always have your back. Talk to us about what they mean to you and if you could say one thing to them what would it be?
DaSilva: Yeah I’m going on 10 years fighting between amateur and pro and win, lose or draw my supporters have always had my back I want to thank them from the bottom of my heart and I am looking to make them proud on February 18th.
And with how you are talking it sounds like that is gonna happen! We all know you are more than just a fighter, you are a fight fan and Arias Garcia Jr just made a fight fans dream with this CFFC 63 card. When you saw your name get added to this STACKED CFFC 63 card that has three title fights, what did you think and are there any bouts you will make sure to have your eyes on?
DaSilva: Anytime I fight on any CFFC card I am very grateful. There is never a bad card. I am honored to share the cage with these guys. Yeah a lot of great fights, main one I have my eye on is Jared Gordon versus Bill Algeo. Jared is like a little brother to me, we live two blocks away from each other. We came up training under the same camp and a big reason of why am a fighter is because of Jared. Inside and outside of the cage he has proven time and time again. That he is a true definition of a fighter I WILL definitely be front row for that one.
That is awesome man and yeah Jared rules! Now you have been around the CFFC for some time, they recently just merged with Alliance MMA. How big of a move do you feel it was for the CFFC and have you seen any changes around?
DaSilva: Yeah Rob Haydack and his staff are always taking it to the next level. I think Alliance MMA is huge for the entire sport and this is just the beginning. I’m excited to be a part of such an amazing company and grow within the organization. The entire staff top to bottom is top notch. Results don’t lie.
Ok we know your time is valuable so before we let you go are there any people or sponsors you would like to mention? And we know we missed it by a couple of days but we would like to wish your daughter Sheila a happy 11th birthday!
DaSilva: Thanks for the birthday shout out to my girl can’t believe she’s 11! Yeah I would like to thank my family my friends my teammates coaches, CFFC, you guys for doing this interview and of course my sponsors. New York fighting, Everlast, Ronin Gi’s, blessed individuals, Myway labs, Future Legend, Rich Schaeffer, Five Rounds, Energy Fuel, Navia Vision, VSBJJ, Long Island MMA , Sitan Muay Thai and a special shout-out to my main man Manny Fernandez who’s the photographer for CFFC always bringing out priceless moments to life always appreciate that.
